London!

I’d been hoping to get into London on this trip to England, and earlier this week, I made it happen! I could sadly only do a day trip – but I was determined to make the most of my trip, and do as much as I possibly could!

After taking the 1 hour train from Cambridge to London, I grabbed the Tube Circle Line, to Westminster Station – the heart of the capital!

I started with Westminster Bridge; checked out the river, the London Eye, Parliament buildings, and Big Ben (which tolled for the last time the day before I arrived until 2021 for maintenance).

I walked down Whitehall (which was closed to traffic on one side), and randomly (but excitingly) stumbled upon a changing of the guard at the Household Cavalry Parade.

I continued on to Trafalgar Square, stopping first at the beautiful Canada House to see those brilliant maple leafs 🙂 I had tried to get a spot to tour Canada House a couple of weeks ago, but it was already sold out – maybe next time!

I continued along The Strand because I wanted to get to the Twinnings store to pick up some teas. They have these neat ‘London edition’ teas, with the most beautiful packaging, so I picked up a couple of those, then I grabbed a takeaway lunch, and headed back to Trafalgar Square to eat, and people watch.

After lunch I headed out towards The Mall, stopping first at Admiralty Arch.

I walked all the way down The Mall until I was at the stunning Victoria Memorial, and Buckingham Palace. I also took a peek at Green Park and the beautiful Canada Gate, before deciding to walk through St. James Park.

It was pleasant walking through St. James Park – the day was warm but not too hot since it was overcast, and the park was busy, but not overwhelming.

My stroll through the park came to an end at the Winston Churchill War Cabinets. I walked through the buildings and was back along Whitehall.

I visited the beautiful Westminster Abbey before catching a train back to Cambridge – initially I thought maybe I was being overly cautious in returning so early, but the trains this summer have just been a mess. I’m glad I did because that day was no exception, and there was over an hour delay getting back.
